Next up on our countdown towards Close Up’s festival is London trio, Carpark. I first got into this band when they supported Lauran Hibberd at Manchester’s Deaf Institute last year. Since then, they’ve become a regular on my music playlists and I’m so happy that I get to see them for a second time! If you haven’t wrapped your eardrums around them yet then make room for these rising stars.
How did you all get together and where did the name come from?
Scottie and Loda played in a band called Hey Charlie before. We didn’t have a guitarist for the last tour we had and got a message from Hattie asking if we were looking for someone. We met up and just clicked, started writing songs and started Carpark. A car park is just where we spent so much time on tour. One Summer evening we had a few options and our drunk neighbours ended up making the final decision for us.
Where does a lot of your inspiration for songwriting come from? Do you have a specific writing process or have a theme?
Inspiration just comes from our own experiences. It’s been pretty crazy recently and the themes have ended up being pretty apocalyptic. We write every song differently but usually it starts with a voice note of an idea which we jam in a rehearsal studio.
If you could listen to one album for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Weezer- Weezer
If you could collaborate with one artist, who would that be?
Bring Me The Horizon
If you could support one band/artist (past or present) who would it be?
Blink 182
Are you excited for CloseUp Festival 2022?
Can’t wait! We love Colours, Hoxton.
What have you got planned for the next 12 months?
We’re currently writing new stuff and getting in the studio this month. More music and touring!
What tips would you give for aspiring artists who want to go into the music industry?
Run! Get a 9 to 5! Just kidding, it’s hardcore but so worth it, keep going and constantly push yourself to keep getting better.
