Edinburgh’s Polly drop Spaghetti Western inspired psych-rock track Just Ask Me (For A Better Upgrade). Grungy riffs and dramatic shifts see the band take a darker route to their upcoming debut album.
Slinking into the new music saloon right at the end of the year are a band that have mostly gone under my radar in 2021 but listening back it’s hard to see how. Self defined Cowboy Grunge band Polly have sludgy guitar lines with a flare for the dramatic, inspired by soundtracks of classic Spaghetti Westerns. Latest release ‘Just Ask Me (For A Better Upgrade)‘ is the third of four singles from the upcoming debut album – ‘SLUMP’. It’s a track with a unique energy, layering guitars and haunting drums really create a vision of a sandy ranch as a base for this haunting sound scape. As the track builds it really finds it’s feet as a rock tracks, everything starts to hit a little harder, even hitting us with a shredding guitar solo, a surprising revelation, I thought they’d gone out of style. But that’s the story of this track, everything feels a little retro but fresh, loud but understated. Polly have played a blinder on this one, real ones to watch for 2021.
