Hartlepool singer-song-writer Michael Gallagher has been dropping indie bangers over the last year, latest single ‘Call My Name’ continues the trend. Melodic and guitar driven, this is a tale of a relationship gone awry told beside catchy riffs and unforgettable hooks.
His last single LULA pricked up my ears, got stuck and my head and made me think ‘This guy might be onto something good’, now he’s back with new single that cements it. Michael is quick becoming an expert at crafting vivid stories in catchy indie pop songs, Call My Name’s no exception with Gallagher’s smooth like bourbon voice telling tales of drunken nights and passive fights amongst a barrage of indie rock riffs. “Call My Name is a song about the breakdown in relationships and follows two characters, telling the story from both sides of the coin.” accounts Hartlepool artist “It touches on the difficulties that people face but ultimately it kind of all boils down to putting yourself first and doing what’s best for you.”
There’s maybe more of a melancholic regret pressed into the whole vibe of this song compared to previous releases, but it does nothing to dampen the mood. With jagged little riffs and smooth guitar slides it’s full of delicious melodies that play over a uniform beat whilst it all builds into another highly addictive in pop-rock masterclass. Call My Name is out now on via Humble Angel Records and strengthens his position as one of the most promising artists emerging on the scene right now.
